Roundtrip by car - One week

Discover Madeira in liberty!

Funchal – Ponta do Sol – Porto Moniz – Seixal – Serra de Água – Santana - Machico

1st day - Upon arrival, pick-up the car at the airport and drive to Funchal.
Overnight at Hotels Dorisol or similar.

2nd day - In and around Funchal.

3rd day - After breakfast drive to Ponta do Sol, along the west coast. On the way, visit Camara de Lobos (typical fishing Village) and Cabo Girão (second highest cliff in the World - 580m).
Overnight at Hotel Baia Sol or similar.

4th day - After breakfast drive alongside the south coast to Seixal via Porto Moniz. At Porto Moniz, possibilities to visit the Aquarium and Center of Science. 
Overnight at Estalagem Brisa Mar at Seixal, or similar.

5th day - After breakfast drive alongside the coast to São Vicente (visit the Village), possibility to visit the Grottes and Volcanism Center. Then continue to Encumeada (view over the north and south coast of Madeira).
Overnight at Pousada dos Vinháticos or similar.

6th day - After breakfast drive alongside the north coast, to Santana (typical thatched roofed houses), Possibilities to visit the Thematic Park. Overnight at Hotel o Colmo or similar.

7th day - After breakfast drive to  Ribeiro Frio (trout hatcheries), Poiso Pico do Arieiro (third highest peak)  Santo da Serra (golf course), Portela (view over the north coast of the Island), and Machico (typical fishing Village).
Overnight at Hotel Dom Pedro Baia or similar.

8th day - Drive to the Airport.

1st Day - Upon arrival, pick-up the car at the airport and drive to Funchal.
Overnight at Quinta Devónia.

2nd Day - In and around Funchal
Possibilities to visit: Farmer Market; Embroidrey Factory; Wine Cellar; Gardens (Parque de Santa Cartarina; Municipal Garden…); Museums (Quinta das Cruzes; Frederico de Freitas; Sacred Art; Madeira Story Centre; Sugar Museum; Modern Art Museum in Fort of S.Tiago…); Churches (Cathedral, Colégio…); Palace/Fortress of São Lourenço; Town Hall; Marina do Funchal; ect.

3rd Day - In and around Funchal/Monte
Possibilities: Climb to Monte by cable car; visit Monte Palace Tropical Gardens; Church of Monte; descent by “Carrinhos de Cesto” (basket sledge) to Livramento; visit the Botanical Garden.

4th Day - Departure from Funchal to São Vicente
Possibilities: Departure to São Vicente passing by Pico dos Barcelos (viewpoint over Funchal City); Eira do Serrado (viewpoint over Curral das Freiras,“The Nun’s Valley”); Câmara de Lobos (typical fishing village); Cabo Girão (2nd highest sea cliff in the world with ca.580m high); Ribeira Brava (Etnographic Museum; Mother Church; Fort of São Bento…); Encumeada (if the weather allows both sides of the island, north and south, can be seen at the same time); São Vicente.
Overnight at Casa do Regresso.

5th Day - In and around São Vicente/Porto Moniz
Possibility to visit: São Vicente Caves and Volcanism Centre; Mother Church of S.Vicente; Chapel of S.Vicente; Seixal (Waterfall – “Véu da Noiva”); Porto Moniz (Natural Swimming-pools); Walk in Paúl da Serra: Rabaçal/25 Fontes/Rabaçal.
Overnight at Casa do Regresso.

6th Day - Departure from São Vicente to Santo da Serra
Possibilities: Departure to Santo da Serra passing by: Ponta Delgada; São Jorge; Santana (typical thatched roofed houses); Madeira Theme Park; Walks: Queimadas/Caldeirão Verde/Queimadas; Achada do Teixeira/Pico Ruivo/Achada do Teixeira; Ribeiro Frio (Trout hatcheries); Walk (Ribeiro Frio/Balcões/Ribeiro Frio); Poiso; Pico do Areeiro (3rd highest peak of Madeira with ca.1818m); Santo da Serra.
Overnight at Vila Joaninha.

7th Day

In and around Santo da Serra/Camacha/Santa Cruz/Machico
Possibilities to visit: Quinta do Governo (small Botanical Garden); Camacha (wicker work market); Santa Cruz (Mother Church; Aquaparque…); Machico (historical city, where the Portuguese landed in 1419); Caniçal (fishing village); Ponta de São Lourenço (eastern point of Madeira); walk Ponta de São Lourenço/Cais do Sardinha/Ponta de São Lourenço; Portela (view point over Penha d´Águia and Porto da Cruz – North Coast); Santo da Serra.
Overnight at Vila Joaninha.

8th Day - Departure.  Deliver the car at the airport.
